IIHS Crashworthiness Evaluations
This database, compiled by the Virginia--based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), provides automobile crash test data on 40-mph frontal offset crashes, low-speed bumper crashes, and selected results of head restraint crash tests. Search by individual model and make or by one of eleven car/truck classes. Entries include data on structure/safety cage, head/neck, chest, left/right foot and leg, restraints, head restraint, and bumpers as well as evaluative and comparative data on each of these categories. Many entries also highlight special safety features such as front/side air bags, daytime running lights, seat anchors, anti-lock brakes, etc. Crash data are available as early as 1994 depending on make and model.
Canadian Broadcasting Company Radio and TV Archives
Search or browse this multimedia database of radio and television clips from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) dating back to 1936 and 1952, respectively. "For the moment, the CBC Archives Web site focuses primarily on interviews, news and current affairs programs to which we hold or have obtained copyright." Searches can be sorted by broadcast date or media format. New topics and content are added weekly by CBC staff.
Gary Price's List of Lists
Originally compiled by George Washington University Librarian Gary Price, the List of Lists is a browseable (only) database of ranked listings. Entities include "companies, individuals, and resources freely accessible on the Internet." These lists are arranges by 24 general subject categories (based on the two-digit 1997 U.S. NAICS Codes) or by any of the more than 300 magazines, journals, newsletters, and trade publications—from Advertising Age to the Chronicle of Higher Education to World Trade Magazine —from which the rankings are culled. Now maintained and made freely-accessible by Special Issues magazine, published in Houston, Texas.
EPA's Fuel Economy Guide and Green Vehicle Guide
Search or browse these two publications, published annually by the Environmental Protection Agency, for fuel efficiency and vehicle emissions data for hundreds of automobile makes and models sold in the U.S. Fuel economy data date back to 1985 and emissions data to 2000. Individual entries generally include information on fuel type, city/highway MPG ratings, specific and relative greenhouse gas emissions, a pollution score, and geographic vehicle (purchase) availability.
